Level 1 Lesson 5 – Truthfulness

As Muslims we should always tell the truth. No matter where we are. We must be honest and never tell lies. We should gain everyone’s trust as it can get us very far in life. Remember trust is like a paper, once it is crumpled it cannot be perfectly plain again!

We all take the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) as a role model. He was known as Al-Amin which means The Trustworthy. He was also known as The Truthful even before he gained prophecy! Whenever somebody asks a question we should always respond with a true answer if we do not know the truth then we mustn’t lie but tell them that you do not know. The truth means to be genuine, honest, and sincere. It means to be actual, reliable, and able to be trusted

The Prophet Muhammed (SAW) has enforced being truthful in the following Hadeeth:

“I order you to be truthful, for indeed truthfulness leads to righteousness, and indeed righteousness leads to Paradise.  A man continues to be truthful and strives for truthfulness until he is written as a truthful person with Allah.  And beware of falsehood, for indeed falsehood leads to sinning, and indeed sinning leads to the Fire.  A man continues to tell lies and strives upon falsehood until he is written as a liar with Allah.” (Saheeh Muslim)

So, truthfulness is something which is to be cultivated till it becomes implanted in a person’s so

ul and disposition and therefore reflected throughout the person’s character. Truthfulness is a quality of a true Muslim and dishonesty is an act on Shaytaan!

Step-By-Step Guide

  1. Make a clean intention
  2. Whenever you speak think and always remember to tell the truth. Truth hurts!
  3. If you accidently lie then seek repentance from Allah and the person you lied to.
  4. Avoid hanging around with people who lie so you don’t catch the habits.
  5. If you see somebody lying give them Dawah!

May Allah give us all the ability to be truthful all the time. Ameen.
