The Last Ten Days
The last ten days of Ramadan are the essence of the whole month; Allah has given these last ten days such merits that nights like these will not come back for another year; it’s not worth missing them.
The Prophet’s (PBUH) conduct during these nights
The Prophets (PBUH) normal practice was to wake up for tahajjud (night prayer) he did not disturb his family during the year, however when it came to the night of power he would wake his family and say “Get up these are the last ten days. Allah the Almighty’s mercy descends these days! Seize the opportunity”.
The Sahabas Regret
The companions of the Prophet (PBUH) regretted that they could not live as long the people in the past. They said to the Prophet (PBUH):
“O messenger of Allah, these people had very long lives and so had much opportunity to worship Allah and obey Him. In this way they collected much of Allah`s mercy. Our lives being short, we cannot equal them no matter how much we worship Him. Shall we remain behind?”
To bring peace to their hearts and minds Allah the merciful revealed surah al Qadr, stating the night of power is better than a thousand months.
The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.
Allah the All wise did not disclose the precise date of night, and informed us that it is one of the odd nights in the last ten days of Ramadan. Even if we worship Allah on all five odd nights and receive reward of one thousand months, that’s a good deal not to waste.
Many people unfortunately waste these precious moments in useless activities. This should not be the case for us, everyone for themselves when it comes to these nights. We must remind and get on with our own worships.
We should indulge ourselves in much worship:
- Recite Quran
- Pray the night away
- Continuous Zikir
- Prolonged Ruku and Sajdahs
This is the night to be alone and drown ourselves in devotion to Allah, gatherings, speeches should be refrained from and pure individual worships should be the focus. This is the night to beg and plead to Allah to forgive, increase and give.
- Forgiveness from Allah
- Allahs Mercy
- Able to cry
- Ask Allah to ease our Tasks
- Make the coming year peaceful and fruitful
- Save us from the Fire of Hell
- Give us a place in Jannah
- Put us in the Shade on the Day of Judgement
- We die with the Kalimah
- We pass in the grave
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عُفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allaahumma Innaka ‛afu-wun tuḥibul ‛afwa fa‛afu ‛anni
Aisha, (may Allah be pleased with her), said: I asked the Messenger of Allah: ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?’ He said: ‘Say: O Allah, You are pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.’
May Allah accept our efforts and give us all the ability to worship as He should be worshipped.
